Official buttons for sharing on Blogger

Blogger has added a new feature, a few weeks ago, to its platform: buttons to share the content of a post through social services such as Facebook, Twitter, Blogger, Google Buzz or traditional email.

How to add them?

You need first to activate them:
Dashboard → Design → Blog Posts → Edit

If, with this, the buttons don’t appear on your blog after doing this, surely you’ve got a custom template, so you have to add the code manually to add the feature. In the code on your template (Dashboard → Desing → Edit HTML → Expand Widget Templates) search for something like this:

Note: you can also search for post-footer-line-2 or post-footer-line-1.
After the code, add this:

The pages widget on Blogger is very useful for use as menu, however, it has a weakness: you can’t add links directly from the panel, but this is possible from the code.
Step by step:
1. Go to your template code (Desktop → Design → Edit HTML) and expand widget templates.
2. Search the pages widget code, it looks more or less as follows:

As this is an HTML list, the link will follow this format:

You can add as many links as the design permits. Always taking care of opening and closing tags correctly.
4. Save the changes.
In this way you can add links to a important label, an external site, the feed url or any other link.

How to install a Blogger template?

If your are using Dynamic Views, you need first go to Design (Dashboard → Design) and then click on “Revert to previous template”.
1. Download the template and unzip the file (you can use a free unzipper software).




2. Go to your blog design section (Dashboard → Design → Edit HTML ).
In the new Blogger design: Dashboard → Template → “Manage” button.

3. Backup your previous template (Download full Template).

Why I can’t install a template? Blogger gives an error.

There are several possible factors that cause an error Bx-xxxx:

• The code is directly copied, and Blogger did ‘t interpret it.
• Temporarily Blogger  is not accepting  templates with certain codes or gadgets.

Possible solutions:

• Remove widgets or gadgets that come with the template downloaded.
• Clear your browser’s cookies.
• Trying to upload the template with a different browser (Opera, Firefox, Chrome).
• No copy and paste the code directly, upload the xml file.
• Wait 24 hours and try again.

This post looks at two very popular free hosted blogging platforms – I was recently asked that if I had to start a blog from scratch and had no idea which was the best platform to choose, which platform would I use out of Blogger or WordPress assuming they were both recommended to me.

Blogger offers 1GB of image hosting space provided through Picasa web albums whilst WordPress users can get up to 3GB plus more on upgrade.

So which platform to use, Blogger or WordPress?

So you’re now thinking which platform should you use, Blogger or WordPress? It’s a tough one as I see both platforms great in their own respects; I would actually be more inclined to use WordPress.com even though there are optional premiums and limitations with monetization. I’d choose WordPress because it offers more options for expandability, monetization wouldn’t be something I would be interested in when starting out in any case.
If this is your first ever, ever blog and you have no idea where to start and don’t wish to get involved in too many complications, then I’d go for either platforms, I know this isn’t a great help perhaps but both are great blogging platforms. If you want a little more from your blog then definitely go for a Blogger.com blog.

For example in addition to the main page of this blog – at the time of writing this post there are over 520 other pages or posts below the surface that I’ve written over the past few months.
When I write a post like this one it goes to the top of the front page. As it gets older and as I add more current posts it begins its journey down the page until it disappears from it. This is not the end of its life however, because it goes into the ‘Archives’ of my blog. It sounds like a dusty dark place but its really just like a filing cabinet that is easily accessible in a couple of ways. You can read my ‘archives’ simply by looking on the ‘sidebar’ (over on the left of this blog) at the ‘archives’ or ‘categories’ section. There you will see links to all my old posts which you can access either by category. You’ll see a category for ‘Advertising’ – click that link and you’ll see all my old posts on the topic of Advertising with the most recent at the top and the oldest at the bottom.

Comments – Not all blogs use comments – but most do. This blog is not a monologue but a conversation. You can give me feedback on almost everything I write simply by clicking the ‘comments’ link at the bottom of each one of my posts. This will take you to a little form where you leave your name, email and a link to your own blog if you have one as well as your feedback, comment, critique, question, essay on why you love my blog, promise of money…. etc). Try it now. Scroll to the bottom of this page, click ‘comments’ and fill in the blanks with a little introduction to yourself.
A great way to learn about blogs is to read a few. Leave some comments, ask questions and bookmark your favourites. An even better way to learn about blogs is to start your own.
